Egyptian Journalists Syndicate Short Lists Wael Al Dahdouh For Freedom Of Journalism Award

Al Jazeera chief reporter Wael Al Dahdouh who is now under spotlight for his extensive coverage of Gaza Strip, has been nominated by the Egypt’s Jounalists Syndicate board of trustees to the Freedom of Journalism, an award that is now seeing its revival by bringing in his name after years of inertness.

The board of trustees have decided earlier this week, headed by Khaled Al Balshy and the writer Mohamed Al Ezaby have called for reviving the Freedom of Journalism award that has been stopped for years.

Al Dahdouh is now a hero, along with the other journalists covering news on ground from Gaza. Aljazeera reporter lost his wife, children, and grandchildren only a few days after the start of current war. The gravity of the situation did not stop him from doing his job, when he is supposed to mourn in deep sorrow the sudden collective loss of his close family members in a horrendous way.

Three days ago, Al Dahdouh was injured amid shootings and bombardment in Gaza while reporting the aftermath of the nightly Israeli strikes on a UN school sheltering displaced people in the center of Khan Yunis located in southern Gaza, and his fellow reporter and cameraman Samer Abu Daqqa was martyred. Again, Al Dahdoun put to grave his colleague and resumed work. Al Dahdouh’s tale of dedication and perseverance has stunned and inspired millions.

Al Dahdouh started working for the press as early as 1998. His relation to the Palestinian cause was evident from day one. He worked for the Palestinian newspaper Al Quds and other Palestinian newspaper. He also worked for the Radio Voice of Palestine. At the beginning of the Second Intifada in 2000 he was a correspondent for Sahar channel. His work for the gigantic Aljazeera began in 2004. In 2013, Al Dahdouh won Peace Throug Media Award in London.
