“No Ceasefire, No Votes” Macklemore Joins Massive Pro-Palestine Rally In DC Holding Biden Accountable

Yesterday, November 4, tens of thousands marched in Washington DC demanding that Joe Biden stop aiding Israel and immediately call for a ceasefire in Gaza.

The protest which was named ‘National March on Washington: Free Palestine’ was organized by the ‘Act Now to Stop War and End Racism’ ANSWER Coalition which was founded post 9/11 in the United States.

Over 200 endorsers and hundreds of busses came from all over the states to join the March. Their slogans were ‘BIDEN, NO MORE US AID TO ISRAEL  LIFT THE SIEGE ON GAZA NOW!’, and ‘THE PEOPLE DEMAND A CEASEFIRE.’

Notably, the American rapper, Macklemore, famous for his hit ‘Thrift Shop’ was present and he gave a speech on stage in front of thousands of protesters, just below the stage gathered Jewish people dressed in carrying Pro-Palestine posters.

Macklemore, who claimed he was not the best fit to talk about the subject said the protest was ‘beautiful to observe’.

“I didn’t expect to be on a microphone. There are thousands of people here more qualified to speak on the issue of a free Palestine than myself.”

“We are watching it unfold, we have been taught to just be complicit, to protect our careers, to protect our interests, and I am not going to do it anymore, I am not afraid to speak the truth.” He Continued.

However, on October 18, Macklemore posted on his Instagram saying he was deeply saddened by the Hamas attack on Israelis.

“I have been in fear. I have felt a literal lump in my throat and I cannot stay silent any longer. I condemn the murder of any human…My heart deeply hurts for the Israelis who lost loved ones to such an abomination. As a father, I cannot imagine if one of my kids was at that festival, or was still missing after being kidnapped. It is absolutely unfathomable. But killing innocent humans in retaliation as collective punishment is not the answer. That is why I am supporting the people around the world who are calling for a ceasefire.”

This march was happening alongside protests in New York, Seattle, and other US cities, as a part of an intensifying demand both for a ceasefire in the Israel-Gaza conflict and an ending US aid to Israel.

According to the Ministry of Health in Gaza health ministry, at least 9,257 people in the territory have been martyred up until now since October 8.
