In Anticipation of the Zamalek vs. Ahly Match in Abu Dhabi, We Take a Look at the Rumors and Controversies

This is the most awaited match of the year for all Egyptians living in the UAE, the Super Cup between Egyptian rivals, Al Ahly and Zamalek. The ‘Egyptian Clasico’ is set to be played today at 9 pm (UAE timing), at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

So whether you’re into football or not, if you’re an Egyptian living in the UAE, we know where to find you today!

Like every match between Al Ahly and Zamalek, there were talks and debates on the winning team. But this time, several rumors spread prior to the match, to the extent that some went as far as saying that Turki Al-Sheikh, the Honorary President of Al Ahly, would be offering meals from KFC to Al Ahly fans who attend the match!

Although Zamalek was recently crowned CAF Super Cup champions, Zamalek fans weren’t very pleased once the tickets were available on the website. The website was down for one day, so fans were furious when they tried to access and couldn’t buy tickets, thinking that they’ve all been sold out already.

Rumor spread among the ‘Zamalkaweya’, that Turki Al-Sheikh bought all the tickets so there would be a few Zamalek fans at the game. Fans later realized that tickets were available on the website and Egyptian football star Ahmed Hossam Mido echoed that piece of information.

Till today, Zamalek fans claim that Al-Sheikh has bought tens of tickets to gift them to his friends, but no one from Al Ahly has verified or denied that.

The controversial Egyptian star, Mohamed Ramadan, was scheduled to perform before the game. A few days after the announcement, the organizing committee announced that the star has been excluded from the event and rumors spread that the reason behind his exclusion was the recent public criticism he has been receiving.

However, Suhail Al-Arifi, Head of the Organizing Committee for the Egyptian Super Cup, said that “the ten-minute period is too short for a star like him to perform in”.

WE SAID THIS: Are you going to watch the match?
