Artists Solange Roberdeau and Shannon Brinkley Will Surely leave an “Impression” With This Latest Exhibition

By Nizar Ahmed

Artists Solange Roberdeau and Shannon Brinkley will be featured in an exhibition at Arcade Gallery called Impressions. As if those two talents weren’t enough, the gallery has another trick up their sleeve here with their guest of honor to hold a talk at the end; none other than Mohamed Abla, one of the most renowned painters in all of Egypt.

Running from 5 May until the 25, the idea for the exhibition arose after Roberdeau and Brinkley visited Fayoum together and thought about the idea of just what an Impression is; how it happens so quickly as if it were intuition. Both artists come from America; Brinkley currently living in Cairo and teaches at Cairo American College, while Roberdeau is an art educator who lives in northern California, whose work has been featured in France.

The artworks will be presented in word and paper, traditional mediums that have continuously proven their worth as some of the best mediums for art. According to the official statement from Facebook, the goal of the exhibition is for “each artist considers her relationship to this concept and asks the question of how she might capture something inherently temporal and translate it through drawing.”

Some of the themes delve deep personally, such as Brinkley reflecting on her health issues with blood sugar in her paintings, which appear to resemble landscapes within the body itself. Roberdeau takes a less personal but no less thoughtful theme, exploring the relationship between man and environment through artwork that pays tributes to potterers.

WE SAID THIS: Let’s hope the artwork featured here leaves a memorable impression for a good reason.
