New app launched in Dubai, by the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) on Monday, that allows diabetic patients to monitor their blood glucose levels. LibreLink app, by Abbott Laboratories, was uncovered during the Ministry’s participation at Arab Health Exhibition & Congress 2018, that’s being held at the Dubai World Trade Center from January 29th to February 1st.

The application is compatible with Android OS 4.0 or higher and reads glucose levels via the FreeStyle Libre sensor placed on the back of the upper arm, eliminating any need for the routine finger pricking for instant results. The users replace the sensor every 14 days and patients can swim or take a shower while wearing it.

The ministry said the launch of the app is in line with its vision to provide personalized health care and self-management solutions using smart monitoring devices to test blood glucose levels, while also reducing possible complications related to diabetes.

The app can transfer up to eight hours of glucose levels, and features a trend arrow that indicates whether glucose levels are steady, rising or dropping. The app can also be very useful for families and health care providers, as one LibreLink account can show results for up to 20 individuals.

The Dubai Smart City initiative, launched by Dubai’s e-government, aims to transform the Emirate into a leading global smart city in the upcoming years. According to research conducted by Google and released in late 2016, the UAE topped the global smartphone penetration at 73.8 percent. Alongside the surge in smartphone adoption, the demand for mobile applications is increasing and the UAE is aiming to setting its trends.

WE SAID THIS: Dubai is aiming to help the world be a better place.
