Kids TV shows are not the same anymore. Begad, they don’t make them like they used to anymore. I was babysitting my niece one day and the stuff kids watch these days are absolutely horrendous. Feen ayam el TV shows el gameel? As an Arab ’90s kid, I’d like to say that we had it best. From Spacetoon and Mbc3, to hating on our TV when “san3ood b3d kaleel” comes on, and more.
I’ve decided to give kids of today the best guide to watching a7la TV shows to get into.
Phil of The Future
It’ll make you wish you were from the 2121 century and be part of Phil’s family and friends. Ugh.
Hannah Montana
Nope, we know a different Miley to what you kids know now. She was lesa mo7tarama back in those days. Rabena ma3ak ya 7ag Billy Ray Cyrus.
Remi
The theme song is everything I can almost hear it in the back of my head. Watch it now, please!
3eesh Safari
Think of the Survivors, only the kids version of it. I was obsessed with this TV show. I called and applied and wanted to be one of those kids.
Wizards of Waverly Place
Why Selena Gomez became Selena Gomez! It’s the only thing that got me going after Charmed stopped existing in my life.
Abtal El-Digital
I was never a Pokemon fan, so Abtal El-Digital was that for me when I was a kid.
Jonas
Yup, Nick Jonas has brothers, you guys. Joe and Kevin.
Ketab Al-Adghal
The story of a young kid who gets raised by wolves and befriends the animals in the jungle. Ahhhh, wa7eshny ya Moghli.
Power Rangers
The original Power Rangers is where it’s all at! I can’t wait for the new movie coming out this year as well.
7oreyet Al-Ba7r
Little Mermaid eh w beta3 eh? Mafeesh a7la men el dablaga el 3araby!
Al-Gasosat
I used to stay up all night watching these three girls being spies and wishing I was one of them.
Sabeq w La7eq
Sabeq la tatradad, La7ek al fawz mo2kad, laaaaaa! The intro song was my ringtone ayam zaman! I even owned a car like they used on the show and raced with my friends.
Zaza w Gargeer
One of the reasons why I started to eat gargeer. Not even joking.
Bakar
Of course I have to include Egyptian director Mona Abo El-Nasr’s masterpiece, Bakar. He made our Ramadan nights as he went with his pet goat and bestfriend Rashida on adventures.
Ana w Okty
This TV show is all the feels. Get napkins!
Al-Waledan El-Se7reyan
I wanted my parents to disown me and have Timmy Turner’s fairy parents adopt me.
Sonny with a Chance
Ya kharaby 3aleky ya Demi Lovato. Ayam el 3ezz walahy. Enty feenek now?
Ka3bol
A genius inventor a cat and a bear create an unstoppable trio and you’ll want to be the fourth.
El Moghameron El-5amsa
Loza, Nousa , Ta5ta5, 3atef and Moheb. I’d always wait for the five adventurers to come every Ramadan on MBC3 and save my life begad from family 3ozoomat.
Moghamarat Jackie Chan
As if I needed to love Jackie Chan more. He was such a big deal ayam zaman from movies such as Rush Hour and Tuxedo, but when the TV show came out I went crazy.
Martin Mystery
See those faces? That’s how I looked watching this cartoon and I loved it. It was probably the only scary kids show I’ve ever bumped into.
WE SAID THIS: What was your favorite TV show as an Arab ’90s kid growing up?
