10 Animals Threatened by ISIS
With ISIS wreaking havoc in the Middle East this past year, global media has focused primarily on the human element of the conflict, largely ignoring the – often devastating – toll that war leaves on the local environment and vital ecosystems.
What about the indigenous animals? Why does no one care?
Yeah, we all heard about that car bomb that destroyed that building. But did you know that same explosion also left a family of honey badgers homeless? Why does no one think about the polecats? Forget about the living beings who can’t actually communicate their loss… Right?
Here’s a short round-up of a few animals that like humans, must endure the constant violence, the bombings, and the daily habitat degradation inflicted by ISIS upon all inhabitants indigenous to the lands of Syria and Iraq.
1. Honey badger (Syria and Iraq)
2. Mountain gazelle (Syria)
3. Marbled polecat (Syria and Iraq)
4. Cheetah (Syria and Iraq)
5. Mongoose (Syria)
6. Desert hedgehog (Iraq)
7. Caucasian squirrel (Syria and Iraq)
8. African lion (Syria and Iraq)
9. Grey dwarf hamster (Iraq)
10. Arctic Wolf (Syria and Iraq)
