Mommy Diaries: It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

image-15

It’s the most wonderful time of the year: bronze skin, light hair, school bags and stationary ready to go, trying to go back to some sort of regimen that the summer days have erased. Gone are the days spent looking for playmates and activities to fill up the long summer days. Gone are the days when I let my kids run around in their swimsuits till bedtime. It’s time for my vacation to begin.

School’s back bitches!

This has been a shaky summer. The country is in shambles, curfews are in full effect, my parents up and moved to another country without even considering me or my needs… and I have two monsters in the house… all. the. time.

I haven’t had a baby-free house since February 22, 2010. Since then it’s always been about a diaper change or a puree cleanup or some sort of baby chore.

And tomorrow it will all change.

My babies will be outta here.

For the first time in a long time, I will be able to do things I haven’t even dreamed of in years. Like vacuuming or going back to creating culinary masterpieces in my kitchen. My errands will not be tied to meal times and nap times but to drop offs and pick ups. My kids will be someone else’s responsibility for a good seven hours! They will come home, have dinner, run around for a bit and off they go into sleepville.

It’s everything I’ve always wanted*.

I’m going to have to quote the ever-so-eloquent Pointer Sisters to really convey my message:

I’m so excited, and I just can’t hide it

I’m about to lose control and I think I like it

I’m so excited, and I just can’t hide it

And I know I know I know I know

I know I want you, want you (to go to school long enough for mommy to complete a thought)

*Along with a camel Birkin, seasonal shopping sprees, and a supermodel figure.
