These Beautiful Woven Refugee Tents Can Harness Power from the Sun
Jordanian-Canadian architect/designer Abeer Seikaly has launched a project by the name of Weaving a Home that could potentially better the lives of more than 65.3 million people. The project has been years in the making and it basically creates beautiful woven tents that are uniquely designed for refugees fleeing war and disasters in their countries.
The shelter is designed to contract and expand, making sure the tent is mobile. It’s waterproof and has other features that make it suitable for modern life. The tent uses solar power for light and heat, as well as providing sanitation when excess rainwater overflows and runs off the sides of the tent.
This unique design won Seikaly the 2013 Lexus Design Award. The woven tents are currently being developed. We cannot wait until they’re complete as this will surely change so many people’s lives, and provide them with a temporary home until they find an actual one.
WE SAID THIS: With people like Seikaly, we still have hope for humanity.
