Wahet Al-Ghoroub: The Historical Drama That’ll Steal Your Heart This Ramadan

Keeping up with Ramadan’s mosalsalat race is an impossible mission. Egypt’s booming TV industry is making it extremely difficult for everyone to watch everything. As a result, many great series go unnoticed; Wahet Al-Ghoroub is one of them.

Unlike other Ramadan mosalsalat that focus on the romantic love lives and betrayals of its characters, Wahet Al-Ghoroub tackles one’s love for their country. Award-winning Egyptian actor Khaled El Nabawy decided to take a break from Hollywood after his big roles in Fair Game, Mission Impossible, and The Citizen to play the role of Mahmoud; a nationalist Egyptian police officer who gets exiled to Siwa as punishment.

El Nabawy’s fictional counterpart happens to also support Ahmed Oraby in his resistance against the British colonial powers in the late 19th century.

Wahet Al-Ghoroub was initially a novel published by Egyptian author Bahaa Taher.

El-Nabawy plays opposite silver screen starlet Menna Shalaby, who plays the role of Irish wife, Cathrine. The two protagonists built their love for one another on their mutual hatred towards the British forces.

Shalaby’s performance is absolutely stunning. She simply excels in playing the role of a widow who falls in love with an Egyptian officer. Short into their marriage, Mahmoud receives orders to move to Siwa Oasis to collect taxes from its people, and that’s where the mosalsal starts.

WE SAID THIS: This production is a must-see. The cast includes Ahmed Magdy, Monther Rihana and Sayid Ragab.
