Viral Visual: #MyDubai Now Has A Rap Video

With all the celeb love Dubai gets and New York magazine dubbing it the “fashion playground of the moment” (apparently, Ibitha is so last year), it was only a matter of time before the trendy Emirate got its own song and music video.

Grammy-nominated artists Blaq Tuxedo have released a prototypical commercial rap anthem called “My Dubai”, complete with a stereotype-packed video.

Think bathtubs filled with bottles, models on yachts (and then randomly eating dinner, looking like they’re being forced to eat), G wagons cruising in the desert, and jetskis and flyboards… because “hashtag My Dubai”? The only thing missing is a couple of pet lions.

The video certainly reinforces Dubai’s image as a playground for the rich and famous. And while we think it’s great that the boys of Blaq Tuxedo are giving our Dubai so much love, we wish they would have gone deeper.

What can you expect with lyrics like, “Onion booty put a tear in my left eye / Tell ’em you don’t want a scrub like you’re Left Eye” – because hashtag My Dubai? And that’s the most interesting line of the entire song.

While the admittedly catchy “My Dubai (Switching Lanes)” will probably end up becoming uber popular in the clubs, we know #MyDubai is so much more than “money fallin’ out my pocket / yacht lookin’ like a rocket”.

But hey, if that’s what you’re looking for, that’s what you’ll get.

WE SAID THIS: Don’t miss #100DaysOfMyDubai.
