Veiled Women Not Allowed Entry to Amr Diab’s Christmas Party in New Cairo
“Seeing Amr Diab in concert” has just been added to the list of endless things hijabis can’t do in Egypt. The superstar is set to perform at a Christmas party that’s happening in a New Cairo hotel, and news surfaced online that a veiled fan was not allowed to purchase a ticket.
Why, you say? Because alcoholic beverages will be served. We get it. Yes, those below 18 shouldn’t be allowed entry, but if you’re a veiled fan that’s over 21, why shouldn’t you be allowed entry? I’m a 24 year-old-hijabi who thankfully doesn’t happen to be an Amr Diab fan, but still, why should I not have the power to make my own decisions? Yes, there will be alcoholic beverages but why should they make that choice for me? Who died and made them king of anything?
WE SAID THIS: According to Egypt Independent who contacted the company through their hotline, an employee said that this is normal in such parties and that those below 18 years of age will also be denied access, due to the “nature of the party.”
