I Wore a Turban for the First Time and This Is What Happened

There’s always something new going on in the fashion industry. But with hijabistas becoming more and more visible, we’ve seen different paths taken in how these women wear their hijab, and within this circle has evolved the most popular style: the turban.

Hate them or love them, turbanistas exist and you’ve seen them at least once, whether it’s on social media or a relative back home. Turbanistas have become popular everywhere, and not just in the Middle East. Hijabis in North America have been taking the lead in this newly emerged trend and society’s reaction has been a little confused. Here are a few reactions I’ve received while wearing a turban for the first time…

“Are you Muslim? Does this count as hijab?” – (USA)

“But if your friend is Muslim, why isn’t she wearing a turban, too? Is that a different sect of Islam?” – (USA)
