It’s a great morning to wake up to in Egypt as leading global travel company, Thomas Cook, just announced through Reuters that tourists are expected to return to our country this summer!

That news is quite a big deal for Egypt since our economy immensely depends on tourism. Recently, the government has done several initiatives to promote tourism, and seemingly so, they’re working!

Thomas Cook’s CEO, Peter Fankhauser, said that “After a slow start to the season and a tough year in 2016, we’re seeing early signs that customers are beginning to go back to Turkey and Egypt”. He added that “Customers’ appetite to go abroad on holiday this summer is good across all our markets.”

The global financial crisis in 2008 directly affected the tourism sector in Egypt, as European tourists — the biggest portion of tourists in Egypt — couldn’t afford to travel abroad for holidays. To add fuel to the fire, the Arab uprisings, that started in late 2010, highlighted the Middle East region as an unsafe place for tourist destinations.

However, as the global economy recovered, along with the rising stability in Egypt and the tourist promotion initiatives, Egypt is expected to go back as a popular tourist destination.

WE SAID THIS: Nor all those who wander in Egypt are lost!
