SomaBay’s Reunion Weekend Needed to Not Just Be Seen, but Experienced

When we first heard a few months back that the voices of the legendary Ace of Base and Modern Talking are coming to Egypt for Reunion Weekend, we couldn’t believe it, but nothing could have prepared us for what we’ve experienced. The Reunion Weekend had the word “reunion” in it for a reason. The reunion signified people reuniting with childhood friends and loved ones, people that you wouldn’t normally bump into at all because of, well, life. SomaBay gave us the chance to do just that.

It’s one of “You’re my Heart..You’re my Soul” kind-of-moments #ReunionWeekend

From renowned chef Andrew Mitchell’s 5-course-meal that included dishes such as shrimp falafel (which was our favorite) and vine leaves with avocado at La Pergola, to fist-pumping and twerking with our old friends to the country’s movers and shakers at The Breakers Roof Bar, and much more.

We woke up the next day ready, oh-so very ready for the big event. When the time came, we headed with our friends to the Marina (which is where the event took place) and into the entrance where we were seated (with ice-cold beer in our hands, obviously) waiting for the show to start. The show hasn’t even started and it was already everything we wanted. Drinks with great company, a company we’re usually deprived of. We cheered for the weekend when out of nowhere, Jenny freakin’ Berggren of Ace of Base got on the actual stage. She then opened her mouth and started singing “The Signs,” to which quite possibly everyone at the venue sang along with her. It was a sight that needed to be experienced. Berggren ended her set with, of course, “All That She Wants” to which crowd went absolutely crazy over.

When it was all done, we screamed for more, to which she came back and sang the actual Egyptian national anthem. Everyone sang along, but then it ended and she was gone. We wanted to cry, but the nibbles that were being served by the top notch waiters made us feel a little bit better. During our wait for Thomas Anders, we took a moment to appreciate the little things. We promised ourselves that when we go back to Cairo, we’ll stay in touch with all the people we’ve bumped into here.

But then, stage went dark, and this time, we knew what was coming for us. Thomas Anders of Modern Talking appears on the stage and everyone among the crowd scream and shout and let it all out. The gentleman of music sang our favorite classics, from “Brother Louie,” to “TV Makes The Superstar,” and more. He ended the night with him taking a video of the crowd and raved about how he loved SomaBay. Well, we couldn’t agree more, Thomas.

WE SAID THIS: We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect ending, and we’re counting the seconds excited till we return to SomaBay once again.
