Shakira Tops The Charts Across YouTube With Her Breakup Song
One of the biggest breakups of 2022 saw the longstanding 11-year relationship between Shakira and Pique come to a pinnacle end. Fans across the globe were shocked when rumors started spreading that Pique allegedly cheated on the Lebanese singer. Today, the singer took matters into her own hands by releasing a song dubbed “BZRP Music Session #53” about Pique where the singer slays her ex-partner with sharp lyrics like “I wouldn’t go back to you, even if you cried or begged me … I was out of your league and that’s why you are with someone like you,” or “You swapped a Ferrari for a (Renault) Twingo, a Rolex for a Casio.”
The song was a huge hit, earning more than 122 million views on YouTube and a huge avalanche of comments. Fans took to Twitter to celebrate the singer including one who wrote “All the support Shakira.” On the other end, Pique did not take the song lightly and retaliated during a live stream on Twitch where he said, “We have reached an agreement with Casio,” he said, pointing to his watch and referring to his new King’s League project. “This watch is for life.” This is in reference to her song lyric where she states that she swapped a Rolex for a Casio.
This wasn’t the first time the singer wrote a song about her ex-partner as three months ago she released “Monotonia” but it was more of a heartbreak song than one aiming for revenge. Despite all the drama that is taking place between the couple, the pair did release a statement last summer where they mentioned that they will focus on co-parenting their kids, Milan and Sasha.
