Put on Your Best Pair of Kicks and Run for Diabetes This Weekend

Via SODIC

In collaboration with Cairo RunnersSODIC started an annual charity run back in 2014 in an attempt to encourage both sports and charity work. The run is basically the perfect combo to hit two birds with one stone, and it’s coming back this week, Friday the 9th of November, to be more precise.

Via SODICEvery year the run promotes a different cause and donations are collected for that purpose. This year, the founders partnered up with Control to support diabetes.

Control is a non-profit organization that mainly dedicates its existence to banish the consequences of diabetic vision loss in the MENA region. They aim to raise awareness about the importance of blood sugar control with the focus of providing free healthcare for those in need, raise funds for research, in addition to educating the public about the illness.

But why diabetes? Well, this is mainly because diabetes is very common in Egypt, especially among the younger generations. And unfortunately, it’s being mismanaged, and with the help of such events, maybe the public will acquire more knowledge about it.

It’s worth mentioning that the project previously supported both the Breast Cancer Foundation in Egypt (BCFE) and BAHEYA by holding two 6KM long runs for breast cancer for two years in a row, in 2015 and 2016 consecutively.

In 2017, SODIC collaborated with the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation.

Traffic generated by Cairo Runners normally ranges between 4,000 to 6,000 participants. So, imagine the amount of donations that could be collected! Last year alone, EGP 435,000 were collected and hopefully, they’ll be able to raise even more funds for this year’s cause.

WE SAID THIS: Want to join? Put on your running shoes and head to SODIC West this Friday. Make sure to be there at 7 am sharp!
