Honoring the memory of her parents – the late King Hussein bin Talal and Queen Alia Al Hussein, Princess Haya bint Hussein; the wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, donated 28 million Jordanian dinars (Dh145 million) to the Tkiyet Um Ali charity to fight hunger and poverty across Jordan.

King Hussein died on February 7 1999, while Queen Alia died on February 9, 1977. In 2003, Princess Haya established the non-governmental organisation to provide hot meals and distribute food parcels to underprivileged people in Jordan. Tkiyet Um Ali currently feeds 30,000 families that have been identified as living below the poverty line.

Princess Haya is no stranger to helping honorable causes. In 2016, she went out of her way to fly to Haiti to oversee the UAE’s relief operations for families affected by Hurricane Matthew. She and her husband sent a jet filled with 90 metric tonnes of aid.
