NASA And UAE Partner For Moon Mission: First-Ever Space Station In Orbiting The Moon
Hitting another major milestone in the space industry is the UAE, which has just signed a landmark deal with NASA. This won’t only lead to the creation of the first-ever space station orbiting the moon but will also help Emirati astronauts head to space and take part in moon missions.
Dubbed the “Lunar Gateway,” this massive project doesn’t just involve the UAE but also includes efforts from Japan, Canada, and the European Union.
In this cool project, the UAE aims to have the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre supply the mission with an airlock — an airtight room that’s used by astronauts to enter and exit the space station.
In terms of the timeline, the first parts of the Lunar Gateway are planned to be launched by 2025, while the airlock is scheduled to be launched by 2030. With this timeline in place, the project is going to promote long-term exploration of the moon and help the UAE’s goal of sending its first Emirati astronaut to the moon’s orbit.
This is a groundbreaking project that will change the face of space exploration in the region. It was even recognized and prized by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who said:
“A significant mission awaits us in this project that represents a groundbreaking initiative for humanity’s return to the Moon, landing on its surface and establishing it as a base for future missions toward Mars.”
Lunar Gateway is yet another project that’s cementing the UAE’s position as a major space explorer, paving the way for new discoveries and advancements in the field.
