MMA Tournament to Be Held in Egypt for First Time in History

For the first time in history, Egypt is set to host this widely-popular sport within its borders. The Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) for Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is coming to Alexandria, Egypt on the 1st of August this year.

According to Egypt Independent, Khaled Adbelhamid, the Head of the Egyptian Committee for MMA who have organized the event with help from the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF), is open to all Egyptians. Those who will be allowed to compete in the Evolution Fight Night 44 (Super Cup Egypt) will include amateurs, professionals, gyms, clubs, and teams with two competitors for every weight class.

Abdelhamid also added that the person or team that wins the first place will be rewarded financially, while the team that will win the most matches will go home with the super cup.

For those of you not familiar with MMA, it is a mixture of karate, kung fu, taekwondo, judo, boxing, muay thai, jujitsu, and Greco-Roman wrestling, and is in growing popularity amongst the youth of Egypt.

One highly-anticipated team is the “Egyptian Top Team”, which includes a number of well-known players who have participated in local as well as international fights.
