Mecca to Install the World’s Largest Umbrellas for Pilgrims
Saudi Arabia can be really sunny, AKA really hot, and that’s no good. In an attempt to combat the heat, they’ve decided to install the world’s largest umbrellas — covering 53×53 meters — in Mecca’s Grand Mosque.
The umbrellas will be ready just in time to provide shade for next year’s pilgrims.
According to Arab News, Major General Mohammed Al-Ahmadi (the commander of the forces responsible for security at the mosque) said “temperatures are quite low inside the mosque due to air conditioning, but the umbrellas will provide comfort for pilgrims in the courtyards and on the roof.”
