Lockdown Updates: Will Saudi Re-Impose Another Strict Lockdown Soon?
Although the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been suffering a huge increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, with over 83,000 patients so far, the country has decided to ease measures and start learning to live and adapt with coronavirus, just like many others.
With a high level of uncertainty, people are expected to resume their daily routines while maintaining the necessary measures to stay as safe as possible. Although restaurants and, cafes are set to reopen and domestic flights to resume, gatherings of more than 50 people, like for weddings and funerals, are still not allowed.
With the start of this new phase, Saudi Arabia’s Health Minister Tawfiq Al-Rabiah warned the public that “returning to increased precautions depends on God, then on everyone’s compliance.” Al-Rabiah urged the people of the Kingdom to follow the precautions as lack of public commitment will “take us back to where we were”.
Despite the fact that people have grown tired of curfews and lockdowns, it will still be difficult for them to adjust to this new way of life. To help everyone keep themselves and others safe, the government has announced strict fines on those violating the measures.
