Light up your life
Imagine life without electricity… No, give it more thought.
Do you feel lost? Your life pretty much ends, huh?
The thing is it does not just end, it ends in the dark.
“Tanweer Al-Heiz” is a project that is dedicated to bringing light to people’s lives. If that’s not inspirational enough, then I don’t know what is.
People in Heiz, which is a village in the desert 410 km South West of Cairo, cannot store food, do not have the luxury of cool water or even a fan to ease up the desert heat. They walk long distances each day to get the supplies to cook.Their children cannot study and they are basically isolated from the rest of the world once the sun goes down around 5:30-6:00 pm.
Tanweer Al- Heiz project was started by Rotaract Cairo Royal and Omar Hosny, an individual who studied renewable energy and has a passion for the desert life which led him to meet the people in Heiz and so tried to come up with solutions for them.
Their solution is environmental, social and economic.
How?
By harvesting the energy of the sun and turning it into electricity, they have plan on operating a fridge, a TV, 4 fans and 6 light bulbs in each of the 550 homes in Heiz. All of this was with the support of Mohamed Bahnas and BIC, the company supplying the panels at very low cost to encourage the initiative.
I love how it was like they looked up at the sky and got inspired by the sun to contribute to a better quality of those people’s lives. So far, they have installed solar panels in 31 homes in this pitch black deserted area.
Light up your own life by helping Tanweer Al-Heiz to do more for those people. You can promote, volunteer or fund by contacting Rotaract via email: mail@rotaractcairoroyal.org or visiting their website: www.rotaractcairoroyal.org
