There’s no shortage of Chinese or Japanese places when it comes to Cairo. A new restaurant opens up on every corner every single week. As much as we love our kung pao chicken and sushi, we’re pretty tired of it. Which is why it filled our hearts with joy when we bumped into the Facebook event Korean Foodie Lovers Day. Sadly, Korean food doesn’t get as much attention as its other Asian sisters, but one group of Egyptian foodies is planing to change that.
“We thought it was about time someone recognized Korean culture in Egypt,” Menna Zackaria, one of the organizers of the event told us. “We were all friends that shared love for Koreans, their culture, and most importantly, their food. Some of us met during a cooking class at the Korean Culture Center in Cairo, while others knew each other through mutual Korean friends that live in Egypt,” Zackaria explains how some of the organizers met one another, “Korean culture may not be as popular as other Asian cultures, but it’s slowly and surely growing in Cairo, and we want to make sure that happens, which is why we created this event.”
On September 22nd, The Greek Campus will be turned into a K-town, Zackaria tells us. There will be an open buffet that’ll have some of the most popular Korean dishes; kimchi, bibimbap, bulgogi, tteokbokki and much more. As for entertainment, K-pop music will be playing all day, and a merchandise booth will be available for fans to purchase their favorite K-pop band’s t-shirts, wristbands and everything in between from.
Tickets will cost EGP 80 and you can purchase one by messaging their Facebook page here, or contacting any of these numbers: 01140402242, 01126966305, 01115417375.
