Jan 14: Painting Skies With Palestinian Flag Kites
January 14 marks the next International Kite Day, and protesters around the world have made up their minds to dedicate it to children of Gaza who are under bombardment now. On that day, even the sky will witness the movement that’s taking place on the ground.
The Call 2 Action Now Coalition is calling organizers from countries all over the world to host a kite-running protest on International Kite Day. The UK, Canada, Germany, and the US are some of the first countries that confirmed their participation. Pro-Palestine content creators will also host a live event for some of the participating groups.
Similarly, another initiative is taking place that involves crafting paper birds, each one dedicated to a martyred Palestinian child in Gaza.
In 2010, 7,000 children from Gaza joined hands and flew more than 12,000 kites simultaneously at Al Waha beach, breaking two new Guinness World Records for kite running. This year, the coalition is hoping for another world record.
While the children of Gaza remain deprived of their most basic rights, and flying a kite becomes a life luxury, the world is there to let them know they’re heard, and they’ll be reminded of that day 13 years ago when the record was first broken.
