Italian Opera House Teatro San Carlo To Host Performance At The Pyramids Of Giza In October
The historic Teatro San Carlo, the world’s oldest active opera venue, is set to captivate audiences in Egypt with a mesmerizing performance at the Pyramids of Giza on October 11th. This groundbreaking event marks the first time that the renowned stars of Teatro San Carlo, inaugurated in 1737, will grace Egypt with their talents. This concert represents a significant milestone for Teatro San Carlo as it embarks on its first overseas event since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Presented as “the grandest Italian event ever in Egypt,” the announcement of this concert was made by the Italian Ambassador to Egypt, Michele Quaroni, and CEO of the Egyptian Tourism Authority, Amr El-Kady. With a shared vision of bolstering economic and tourism ties between the two nations, this extraordinary event holds great promise.
The rich history of the Orchestra of Teatro di San Carlo is intertwined with that of the oldest European opera house, which debuted on November 4th, 1737, with Domenico Sarro’s “Achilles on Skyros.” Throughout the 19th century, this prestigious orchestra continued to flourish, performing works by musical luminaries such as Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, and Verdi.
Originally commissioned by King Charles VII of Naples, the Teatro San Carlo was conceived to replace the aging and undersized Teatro San Bartolomeo of 1621. Today, this Italian opera house stands proudly among the most remarkable in the world, having witnessed the birth of countless musical legends. The harmonious fusion of this extraordinary musical talent with the breathtaking backdrop of the pyramids promises an exceptional experience.
