In Pictures: Sahel’s Latest Beach Clean-Up Initiative Starts With Seashell
Earlier this month we announced that there will be a super interesting collaboration between Seashell and Banlastic to raise awareness about the dangers of plastic. We covered everything one needs to know about the upcoming beach cleanup to encourage people to participate and shed light on the importance of being conscious about the environment. Today, we’re proudly sharing the inspiring pictures of the cleanup to showcase the event.
The Ministry of Environment and Banque Du Caire showed all the support in organizing the cleanup and helped the campaign reach its goal. The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness about the dangers of single-use plastics and urge them to reduce their use and shift to biodegradable alternatives in order to save the environment.
The Minister of Environment, Dr. Yasmine Fouad stated that the plastic causes severe damage to the public health of humans and living organisms and that there will be more campaigns to be launched once the public beaches are opened in Alexandria. She also praised the members of the campaign and their commitment to the cause that would protect the environment.
We’re very proud of such initiatives and of all the individuals and institutions that are taking part. Seashell is going to be honored with a shield that represents their contribution and commitment to the green initiative. In a similar manner, symbolic gifts were also given to participants of environmentally-friendly products produced by Banlastic Egypt. After the cleanup, the members of the campaign placed the waste collected during the day in a fish-shaped iron structure as a symbolic sign of what plastic does to marine organisms.
We hope that campaigns like this one inspire individuals, groups, the private sector, and civil society to take more solid steps towards protecting our environment.
