Happiness Is…
When writers define happiness, they tend to use the most poetic and profound words to craft the deepest definition.
“Happiness is not a station you arrive at, but a manner of traveling.” – Margaret Lee Runbeck
“Happiness is that state of consciousness which proceeds from the achievement of one’s values.” – Ayn Rand
“Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude.” – Denis Waitley
And let me tell you the exact definition of happiness in our dictionaries: good fortune; pleasure; contentment; joy. This is a good definition, but it’s still vague because even the meanings of “joy” and “fortune” differ from one person to another. So, the question still remains, what is happiness?
Different companies sell happiness: Cadbury, Chipsy, but no one quite does it better than Coca-Cola. Remember their Happiness Machine, where a bottle of Coke costs only a laughter? The campaign went viral, and is guaranteed to make you laugh. And when Campaigners Egypt joined forces with Diwan Bookstore for the (Tafari7) campaign, they succeeded in sharing happiness.
Well, you’ve probably seen The Happy Page all over Facebook. They let peple define happiness the way they want. Just fill in a form with your own definition of happiness and they’ll draw it for you. Here are a couple of examples from the page:
And there’s even an Egyptian version.
Happiness is a bar of your favorite chocolate, a thrilling football match, a good movie, a cold drink, a nostalgic photo. Happiness is many things! The thing is, happiness can’t be defined and it doesn’t have to be… and it seems being happy is way easier than we think.
