French-based Company NGE To Construct 330 Km High-speed Railway In Egypt
France-based company, NGE has signed a contract to build 330 kilometers of a high-speed rail line in Egypt which will connect the Red Sea Port of Sokhna with Borg al-Arab near Alexandria. Arab Contractors and Orascom Group for engineering and construction are among the companies who will be closely working and assisting NGE in this big project.
This high-speed rail system will transport both people and goods as well as link cities, ports, historical sites, and tourist locations throughout Egypt. Additionally, the project will aid in boosting the growth of several economic sectors within the country.
In an exclusive interview with Global Construction Review, Orso Vesperini, NGE’s senior vice president, highlighted that “this line would give 90% of Egyptians access to fast public transport, and shift road freight traffic to rail.”
The French firm did not yet disclose the value of the contract for this project but it will be joined by construction giants Arab Contractors and Orascom Construction who have already worked on similar projects before.
Egypt has witnessed similar railway projects in the past as Global Construction Review reported that in 2022, Siemens won a $3bn deal to supply train sets for the whole of Egypt’s planned 2,000km high-speed network.
