For The Record – August 4th

• Three previously unreleased Michael Jackson and Freddie Mercury duets are set to be released this fall, according to Queen bandmates Brian May and Roger Taylor, who have been  working on preparing the tracks. The songs were recorded in 1983 at Jackson’s California home.

• Lana Del Ray tweeted this week the poster of her new short film Tropico, which features her standing in a dark forest wearing a flower garland bikini. However, the film’s tagline ‘A tale of redemption told to the music of Body Electric, God and Monsters and Bel Air’ suggests it may just be an extended music video.

• Kary Perry chose to announce the title and release date of her new album by displaying them on the side of a huge gold truck that rolled through the streets of LA. The new album Prism will be released on October 22nd.

• If you’re not already obsessed with this song, it’s time to join the rest of the world – here’s the video for Avicii’s Wake Me Up:

• And here’s Justin Timberlake proving he’s still got moves in Take Back the Night:

• Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera are returning to The Voice for its fifth season, which airs September 23rd.

• Also out September 23rd is the 20th anniversary reissue of Nirvana’s In Utero, which features previously unreleased recordings and demos, and a live recording of a 1993 Seattle show.

• And October brings a new somber Joan Jett album, which will include tracks inspired by the death of her parents, the victims of Hurricane Sandy and – my personal favorite – the modern tendency to overshare online. Unvarnished is Jett’s first album since 2006 release Sinner and will feature Dave Grohl and her band the Blackhearts.
