Egyptian Parents Fight to End School Admission Applications and Interviews
While every parent around the globe waits for the day when his/her child finally goes to school, Egyptian parents feel differently. School admissions means two things: endless applications and assessments.
For those of you who have not yet been through the hassle, parents start by filling an application that can reach up to EGP 1500. Parents also know that acceptance chances are not fair for all children so they apply at multiple schools. Applying for a single child can cost you around EGP 5000 just to set an interview date. We won’t even go through the interview chaos, where 50 children a day are asked endless questions, given multiple tasks, not to mention separated from their parents at the age of 3.
Parents have been complaining for years that application fees are non-refundable in case the child pass the interview. It has become a means for schools to make a fortune where thousands apply and only 30 students get accepted. Parents are fighting hard this month and pleading the Ministry of Education to end this ridiculous procedure and financial load.
If you are a parent whose child has been victimized and labelled unfit by school, share the hashtag #لا_لمقابلات_المدارس in hopes of ending this nightmare.
