Egyptian Minister Nabila Makram Condemns Assault on Egyptian Expats in Libya
Yesterday, Egypt’s Minister of Emigration and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs, Nabila Makram, spoke out against the assault on Egyptian expats in Libya, and stated that Egypt will respond firmly after a video showing Libya’s Government of National Accord (GNA) abusing and humiliating Egyptian laborers went viral.
The Minister also referred to several incidents in the past where the Egyptian government responded immediately to assaults on Egyptian expatriates in different countries. Makram gave the prominent example of how Egypt retaliated after the killing of Egyptian Coptic Christians in Libya in 2015, among other incidents.
More so, she expressed her fury and anger at watching Egyptian nationals being treated this way, as an Egyptian before being a minister, and stressed that Egypt prioritizes the safety and wellbeing of its nationals, and that this video will not go unaccountable.
The GNA’s Interior Minister, Fathi Bashagha, had said that he would investigate the video.
