Egyptian Actor Mena Massoud to Play ‘Alaadin’ in the Live Adaptation of This Classic Tale
Disney has officially found it’s Alaadin for the the live-action “Alaadin” remake by director, Guy Richie. After months of searching, Egyptian Canadian actor, Mena Massoud, has been cast for the role of Alaadin. Massoud played Jared Malik in the TV series Open Heart, and will replace Tarek Kassar in the TV series Jack Ryan.
The cast members were announced at the D23 Expo on Saturday. “Power Rangers” star Naomi Scott will play Jasmine in the live adaptation of the classic tale. The brilliantly hilarious genie will be played by none other than our favorite star, Will Smith.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “finding a male lead in his 20s who can act and sing has proven difficult — especially since the studio wants someone of Middle-Eastern or Indian descent.” Big names like Riz Ahmed from “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and Dev Patel from “Slumdog Millionaire” were nominated by the studio. It was our homeboy, however, who snatched the role.
