EgyptAir Nabs Major Deal To Expand Fleet With 18 New Boeing Aircrafts
At the Dubai Airshow 2023, EgyptAir struck a major deal with Air Lease Corporation, buying 18 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. It was the first time that the two entities made a deal together and it looks to be a fruitful one, “This major deal… demonstrates EgyptAir’s commitment to fleet modernization, environmental sustainability, and future growth plans,” said CEO Yehia Zakaria.
When looking at the new type of aircraft, the 737 MAX is considered the latest generation of the Boeing 737. A large portion of EgyptAir’s fleet comprises older models of the Boeing 737 and today, it will also include the new generation.
Along with the expanded fleet, Egyptair has been seeing major improvements in its airline as it not only achieved a 12 percent increase in its passenger numbers during June 2023, it also saw a 77 percent increase in aircraft occupancy rates and a 9 percent rise in the number of flights in June. Today, the airline is seeing better operating efficiency as well as passenger experience. The deliveries are expected to take place in two years’ time.
