This Is How Much a Week in Rio for 2016 Olympics Would Cost You

8-part Non-Woven Mural

I’m not sure how it happened, but I suddenly have a serious urge to go watch the Olympics 2016 live in Rio. Needless to say, it is just a cute dream considering how Egypt’s, or may I say my own personal economy is going down the drain. However, a dream is just as harmless as Jonah Hill and so I decided to do some online stalking and find out how much it would cost me to just drop the family, book a ticket and leave tomorrow, as in August 9th.

Airline tickets

The cheapest tickets I found with two transit stops, Barcelona and Portugal, would cost you an average of 16,000 EGP. Ouch big time!

I had to ignore Airbnb for security reasons, as the talk about Rio’s safety since the Olympics have started has not been encouraging. On Booking.com, there are hotels that will cost you 3,000 EGP per night. Dorms will obviously cost less, yet again SECURITY!

The cheapest way to go would be public transportation, aka bus and subway. Both of them would cost you an average of 10 EGP per ride.

The tickets

Depends on the game you are watching, prices range from 112 EGP to 985 EGP. I also noticed this week’s most expensive games are volleyball and judo.

Food, aka survival

According to a survey, the cheapest meal would cost you 100 EGP. A bottle of water on a regular day (not Olympics season) costs around 9 EGP. A latte costs 17 EGP. Yalahwi!

WE SAID THIS: If you are planning on packing and leaving tomorrow for a week, I would personally expect you to at least pay 60,000 EGP. That is not a vacation, that is the epitome of stress. Sorry Olympics, I ain’t coming.
