“A Cultural Awakening”: CEO Of The Red Sea Fest, Mo Al Turki On Saudi Cinema’s Evolution

At the heart of Jeddah, the third edition of the Red Sea International Film Festival has kicked off on November 30 and major international names in the creative scene have been announced by the event management to attend. The festival launched with the screening of the Saudi film HWJN (2023), directed by the Iraqi Yasir Al Yasiri, at the Opening Gala Night.

Renowned Saudi filmmaker and appointed CEO of RSIFF Mo Al Turki proudly spoke of the festival’s fund achievement in supporting 251 projects, including eight titles. He shared, “It is evident that the Saudi film industry is becoming a recognizable force. It is now at the center of a cultural movement that is connecting aspiring Arab and African filmmakers to professionals worldwide. Now Saudi Arabia is the number one box office in the Middle East, with more than 600 screens in only six years.

In another statement, Al Turki said, “Our theme this year of Your Stories, Your Festival, is born out by the incredible selection of films from the region,” the selections gather both masters and debut filmmakers who represent the diversity of talent contained in the Arab world.
