Squash fans and Egyptians in general have a reason to be freakin’ excited. The Women’s World Championship for Squash has decided to come to the land of the Pharaohs. Yes, Egypt. The event is going to take place in the oh-so Instagrammable El Gouna from 5th-14th April where the world’s top female squash players will go head to head for the chance to be victorious on Egyptian soil.

“We are extremely happy to be bringing Egypt, and El Gouna, the 2016 Women’s World Championship,” said Amr Mansi, the Tournament Director. “During last year’s men’s El Gouna International event, I pledged to stage a women’s event in 2017. We didn’t just do that, but we also helped in the staging of the biggest tournament on the women’s calendar. This is a fantastic opportunity and I would like to thank Samih and Naguib Sawiris for their continuous support, as well as all my sponsors (that include Arab African International Bank and Carrier and many others) for making this happen.”

The event will give the world’s number one player, Nour El Sherbini, the chance to defend her title from the likes of Laura Massaro. Women’s World Championship is organized by I-Events and hosted by Orascom Developments. In addition to that, Orascom Developments are also building the first squash court complex for this event to take place.

WE SAID THIS: The event will also see the world’s top male squash players descend on El Gouna to compete for the annual El Gouna International Squash Open 2017.
