Egypt Suggests a New EGP5 Tax for Marriage and Divorce
Led by MP Hammam ElAdly, the Suggestions and Complaints Parliamentary Committee are having a sit-down today to discuss the new suggested tax of EGP 5 for every contract of marriage and divorce; a suggestion that was initiated by MP Bedeir Abdelaziz.
We couldn’t find accurate rates for marriage and divorce in Egypt for 2015, however a recent governmental report revealed that Egypt divorces 240 couples per day. In 2014, Egypt celebrated 2611 marriages per day – the most recent rate we found. So we made our calculations, turns out the government will receive a sum of about EGP 14,000 on a daily basis.
