Egypt winger Haissem Hassan has joined Scottish champions Celtic from Spanish club Real Oviedo on a four-year deal reportedly worth £9m, with the option of an additional year.
The 24-year-old becomes the latest addition to Martin O’Neill’s squad and will wear the No. 23 shirt at Celtic Park. His move comes after an impressive World Cup campaign with Egypt, where he emerged as one of the Pharaohs’ standout attacking players.
Speaking after completing the move, Hassan said:
“It is a great moment and a real honour for me to join Celtic, a phenomenal club with such a brilliant history and wonderful supporters.”
Celtic manager Martin O’Neill also welcomed the winger, saying:
“We are delighted to bring Haissem to Celtic and I think the club has done really well to secure a player of such quality, with a number of other clubs interested in him.”
Born in Paris to an Egyptian father and Tunisian mother, Hassan came through the French youth system and represented France at youth level before switching his international allegiance to Egypt.
He began his senior career at Châteauroux before joining Spanish side Villarreal. During his time there, he spent loan spells with Mirandés and Sporting Gijón before making a permanent move to Real Oviedo in 2024.
Hassan played a key role in helping Oviedo earn promotion to La Liga, although the club returned to Spain’s second tier last season. That relegation opened the door for the winger to make his next move, with Celtic now securing his services.
At the international level, Hassan has become an increasingly important option for Egypt. He most recently scored for the Pharaohs in their 3-2 last-16 defeat to Argentina at the World Cup, while also providing an assist in the match.
His performances at the tournament raised his profile significantly, and Celtic have now moved quickly to bring the winger to Scotland as they look to strengthen their squad.
