Montreal-based Lebanese experimental producer and DJ Liliane Chlela teams up with alt-pop artist LAÏ to launch an open-ended collaborative project titled SuperBored.
SuperBored is an independent creative concept that champions experimental art and unconventional regional collaborations, serving as a form of free expression dedicated to preserving and empowering raw talent.
As the first installment under the SuperBored project, LAÏ and Liliane Chlela collaborate on the experimental single ‘Msh S7ab’. The track blends experimental drum & bass, progressive drum & bass, beat breaks, and drill-influenced rhythms. Composed by Chlela, the production delivers relentless bass pressure, abrupt rhythmic shifts, and sections built entirely from manipulated vocal layers. Here, LAÏ’s voice is treated as an instrumental element as the track moves fluidly between pop sensibilities, heavy drum’n’bass energy, and sharp rhythmic transitions.
Written and performed by LAÏ, the vocals contrast the intensity of the production with a delicate emotional presence. The lyrics are introspective, exploring the tension of a “not-quite relationship” and the emotional distress of being perpetually lost in translation. At times, LAÏ’s voice is intentionally broken down and processed, becoming an integrated part of the track’s architecture to amplify its emotional narrative.
Midway through the track, the beat fractures and the tone shifts entirely, where LAÏ’s delicate voice takes front with emotionally charged vocals and the production pulls back, creating space for vulnerability and introspection. This contrast highlights the push and pull between fragmentation and clarity, while Chlela’s tightly wound beats, abrupt transitions, and textural transformations reinforce the track’s underlying tension and motion.
The release is accompanied by a music video directed by Egyptian filmmaker Mohsen Sherif filmed in Lebanon, portraying the party scene both within and beyond its surface glamour, capturing the internal and external drama that accompanies it. ‘Msh S7ab’ is available now on all major streaming platforms.
