On February 3, shelling struck Kadugli, South Kordofan, killing at least 21 children and injuring 29 others, as reported by UNICEF. This attack is part of a broader escalation of violence that continues to claim the lives of young people across Sudan.

El Fasher Market Bombardment Leaves 11 Children Dead

"At least forty children reportedly killed across just three days, in three separate areas of the country.

"This is a stark illustration of the devastating – and growing – threats to children in Sudan."

On February 2, shelling hit a livestock market in El Fasher, Darfur State, killing 11 children. Markets, which serve as crucial hubs for communities, have increasingly become targets, putting civilians, especially children, at great risk.

Khartoum Market Shelled: 8 Children Killed, 6 Injured

Also, on February 2, Sabreen Market in Khartoum came under fire, killing eight children and injuring six others. Sudan’s capital continues to experience intense fighting, with civilians caught in the crossfire.

900 Violations Against Children Reported in Six Months

Between June and December 2024, UNICEF reported over 900 grave violations against children, averaging four incidents per day. Of these, 80% involved killings or injuries, with Darfur, Khartoum, and Al Jazirah States being the hardest-hit regions.

Hospitals and Safe Spaces Under Attack

Even spaces meant for humanitarian aid are under attack. In late January, shelling targeted the only operational hospital in El Fasher, killing or injuring seven children. A UNICEF child-friendly space in Khartoum was also shelled, resulting in three child casualties.

UNICEF Calls for Protection of Sudan’s Children

UNICEF has urged all parties to respect international humanitarian law and protect children. UNICEF Sudan Representative a.i. Annmarie Swai stated, “Children in Sudan are paying the ultimate price of the relentless fighting,” calling for an immediate end to the war.

As attacks continue, Sudan’s youngest generation faces an uncertain future, with their safety, well-being, and survival at great risk.
