A Historic Fusion: Vatican Library to Illuminate Islamic Art Biennale 2025

In an unprecedented moment, two religions will unexpectedly come together. The Islamic Art Biennale, which will take place on January 25, 2025, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, will include an unexpected collection: the Vatican Apostolic Library.

What Is The Vatican Apostolic Library?

Located inside the Vatican Palace is one of the most notable and richest manuscript depositories. Back in the 21st century, the library held more than 80,000 archival manuscripts, more than 1.6 million printed volumes, and 8,600 incunabula.

How Will It Be Included In The Islamic Art Biennale?

One of the main ways that the Vatican Library will participate in the Art Biennale is through its role in the “AlMadar” section, which will focus on the concept of numbers within Islamic civilization. The section will discuss the role numbers play in shaping scientific advancements as well as artistic and spiritual developments.

The Vatican will contribute by including historical manuscripts and rare volumes that showcase how mathematical principles have been a common aspect of human development.

When Can You Visit The Exhibition?

The Islamic Art Biennale will take place from January 25 until May 24. It will be held at the Hajj Terminal of King Abdulaziz International Airport, which is known as a gateway for Muslim pilgrims.
