Dubai Stands Out Again by Becoming the World’s First Paperless Government
Manufacturing paper releases toxic gases into the atmosphere, such as nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and carbon dioxide; these toxins significantly exacerbate air pollution and could have a negative impact on the environment. However, this is a practice that countries should abandon in favor of clean technology that will boost transaction speed and eliminate the traditional method of dealing with documents (which frequently goes missing!)
Dubai has a history of outshining the rest of the world with groundbreaking achievements that sets quite the example. Over the years, the Emirati port city has become a place that encourages the development of new technologies and cleaner methods.
Started in 2018. the Dubai Paperless Strategy is a project that aims to make Dubai the world’s first paperless city, establishing it as a premier digital capital. Dubai aspires to digitize life in all aspects, with a strong focus on the future.
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, stated that Dubai is happy to see the ambitious vision being fulfilled by the country’s people who have worked tirelessly to improve the leading emirate’s competitiveness as a world-leading digital city.
This initiative was divided into various phases, each of which worked together to gradually reduce the use of paper. During the first step, more than 72.5 million sheets of paper were cut from use. Several governmental agencies, including Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects, Dubai Future Foundation, Supreme Legislation Committee, Nedaa Professional Communication Corporation, and Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, joined the program in the subsequent phases.
Furthermore, the program contributed to a reduction in paper use of about 336 million sheets. It also helped the Dubai government save around AED 1.3 billion. As a result of this drastic change, Dubai’s government employs the DubaiNow app. This app gives users access to more than 130 smart city services in 12 different categories.
Dubai is clearly heading in the right direction in terms of sustainability and technical advancement. This approach not only earns respect from other countries but also instills a feeling of responsibility in the nation’s citizens that they are working to maintain and improve upon through other big accomplishments.
