The Egyptian Red Crescent Is Sending Food Aid to Sudan

On Saturday, the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC), in cooperation with a number of concerned ministries, provided Sudan with 587-ton of food aid.

Since December of 2018, the political landscape of Sudan has been unstable with protests breaking out all over the country. The movement climaxed with the ousting of former President and Dictator Omar Al-Bashir in April.

Our neighbors to the South have been through a lot in the past months, and the ERC made sure to show that we do care. The 587-ton aid included 265 tons of sugar, 290 tons of pasta, 34,000 cans of butter, and about 27 tons of Halva, with an estimated cost of EGP 5.8 million.

Pictures show a number of semi-trailer trucks loaded with the aid heading South to cross the border. The ERC statement pointed out that the shipping trucks were equipped with coolers to maintain the integrity of the goods.

This is the second time this month that Egypt participates in the humanitarian aid effort in Africa, as on the 14th of September Cairo has sent numerous aid shipments to Juba as part of the implementation of the peace agreement in South Sudan.
