This New Campaign aims to end Violence Against Women in Cairo Metro Stations!
The National Council of Women, with the cooperation of the United Nations Population Fund, introduced a new campaign to fight the violence against women in Cairo metro stations. The campaign (Hayatek Mahatat, Matkhaleesh Mahata Tewaafek) translates to “Stations in your life, don’t let any stop you”! The campaign will last for three months and it is located at the critical metro stations; Ataba, Ramsis, Abbaseya, and Cairo University.
The campaign targets both women and men of all ages. Seeking to encourage women to pursue their dreams and asks men to support women and encourage them to realize their dreams. “This would help empower women economically, socially, and on the health front, within the framework of the National Strategy for the Empowerment of Egyptian Women 2030.” Said Maya Morsi, the President of the National Council of Women.
The campaign aims to send four messages; women should stand up to harassers and report them, girls should be protected from underage marriages and allow them to freely choose their life partners, promoting women’s participation in the workforce, and stressing that women’s health is a precondition for power!
