15 Wardrobe Basics Must Haves for Guys
It’s more than often usual to find guys lost in clothing stores, trying to figure out what to buy. The only thing worse than a trend resisting guy is a trend slave. To balance out between both, your wardrobe needs to have a decent infrastructure. If you’re not into the trends, these timeless classics will always make you look well put together. If you are up for trying everything from shiny vests to red skinny jeans, these are going to help you look well styled. Here are the 15 staples every man needs to have in his closet.
Fitted Grey Suit
Grey is great because it goes well for night and morning occasions. Avoid any shiny or shimmery fabrics, go with matte. If the suit jacket buttons up with gaps in the middle, you need a bigger suit. If your suit jacket sleeves reach past your wrists, then you need a smaller size.
Khaki Chinos
These pants work as a double agent in your closet. They can be worn anywhere and anytime, except maybe for the beach. If you pair them with a polo shirt, you have a casual look. If you pair them with a dressy shirt, you have a smart casual look; then add a blazer and you have a semi-formal look.
Dark Rinse Jeans
We’ve all met your boxer shorts and got to know them in high school and a big part of college, but really nobody needs to see any part of your undergarments. Skinny jeans are too graphic, so are ripped or destroyed jeans. The best choice would be straight legged with a regular waist in a dark blue rinse.
Navy Blazer
You’ll find wool navy blazers with regular buttons and others with golden buttons, go for the regular ones as they are more versatile. These give instant polish to any casual look and can be worn for a semi-formal look while at work or at an important event.
White Dress Shirt
I can’t emphasize this one more. You will probably need a couple of white dress shirts, not just one. Stay away from the ones that need cufflinks if you are going to buy just one shirt. And no embellishments or embroidery, just a plain white button down.
Brown Lace-up Shoes
Brown is mostly best in suede. If you are a low-maintenance guy, go for the leather option. You will find the best lace-up shoes in Timberland – go for the smart casual ones and forget about your old Converse.
Black Loafers
Leather loafers are great because they can look dressy with a suit and they can look modest and casual with jeans. Get a pair of plain black leather with no embellishments to achieve an effortless and chic look.
Silk Tie
It’s essential to have a tie in your closet, especially if you live in Egypt – chances are there is probably a person you know getting married or engaged every week. Go for a slim black silk tie. If this tie is going to be lonely in your closet, don’t get one that has any kind of pattern on it.
V-neck Jumper
Just something that you can wear over a T-shirt or a polo to keep you warm and cozy. The V-neck will show off the collar of your shirt underneath, making it look well put together. Buy a black one and if you’re going to buy more than one, then go for navy, grey and beige.
Wool Coat
You can always depend on a black wool coat to make you look expensive. Don’t cheap out on this, because this is an investment. Get a coat with a hemline that will hit your knees, longer hemlines will make you look like a wizard.
Polo Shirt
Polos are like the best of both worlds: They’ve got the casual fabric and cut, with the collar to make it look polished. Try not to let the logo be the center of attention – you know what I’m talking about. The best basic colors for polo shirts are black and navy. If you’re going to stock some of these go, with blue and salmon as well.
Black Leather Belt
Even if it’s not going to show, having a support system for your pants on your waist line is great idea. Since you will tuck some of your shirts in, black is timeless and goes with everything. A classic belt buckle is best just to avoid looking vulgar.
V-neck Basic
These are absoultely essential and a good choice for a casual look. Don’t buy a shirt with deep V – nobody wants to see anything more than 4 cm below your collar bones. Black and white are the essential colors for these. You can wear them over shorts or jeans and also under casual shirts or causal blazers for a cool look.
Casual Shirt
Even if you work in a big shot corporation, you still have casual Thursday. Casual shirts are great for looking good without trying so hard. Most guys like stripes. Also try your luck with flannel shirts. If you will have only two, then have one in a neutral, like baby blue or beige, and the other can be bold, like purple or green.
Neutral Shorts
Colors such as beige, olive or light blue are casual and go with almost all colors. Buy a plain pair of shorts with no extra baggy pockets or crazy prints. Your shorts must hit right above your knees when you are standing up – they will rise 5 cm or more when you sit down.
