Kitchen Kulture: 11 Ideas for Food and Cuisine Christmas Presents
With Christmas just around the corner, everyone is festive and has their parties, bazaars and gatherings all planned out. Instead of wrapping up that bottle of wine on your way out the door or picking up some dessert, check out our recommendations for a mix and match DIY Christmas bundle.
It’s actually fun gathering up these items and they’re super easy to find. You can wrap them up in a basket, a brown paper bag with a red ribbon or even a simple box from any gift store near you.
1. Wine Glasses
Whether you’re going for the classy or the local feel, we’ve got both options here for you. Egypt Market Mix has the traditional green goblet blown glass ones at 30 LE a glass and Eklego have amazing ones by local craftsmen at 45 LE a glass – you can even custom order the colour of the handle.
2. Wooden Salad Bowl & Spoons
Made out of a local wood from Aswan, these can also be found at Market Mix and are beautiful and rustic (Bowl 110 + Spoons 40 = 150 LE).
3. Clay Oil & Vinegar Bottles
Very cute and vintage and would look good in a city or summer home. Also can be found at Market Mix, both for 60 LE.
4. Block of Parmesan Cheese
The nice thing about Parmesan is that it has a longer life than other cheeses in the fridge, can be added to nearly any dish or can be even savored on its own, plus it won’t go soft or smelly if wrapped up with the rest of the items. Any supermarket usually stocks it as well as Gourmet Egypt. One kilo can range from 190 – 230 LE.
5. Black Truffle Olive Oil
Basically royalty in a bottle. Can be found at Gourmet Egypt and is 95 LE a bottle.
6. Home Made Mulling Spices Bouquet
This would cost you just under 50 LE and it consists of cinnamon sticks, cardamom pods, clover and nutmeg. The easiest way is to get it from a spice store and wrap them up in a nice mesh or cloth with a little red ribbon. Mulling Spices are added to red wine over heat to make the infamous Christmas Mulled Wine!
7. Fruit Teas
Our favorites are the Ahmed Tea selection – berries, peach, apple, passion fruit, you name it! Can be found at most supermarkets at under 20 EGP per box.
8. Coleman’s English Mustard
Who can say no to that, even if tickles you in the nose from the first bite? Small jars can be found at many supermarkets and range between 30-35 LE.
9. Olive Paste & Sundried Tomato
One of our favorite Egyptian condiments of all time, especially ones by Wadi Food. Can be found at most supermarkets with price ranges of 8 LE all the way up to 41.50 LE for the organic extra virgin type.
10. Châteaux Des Reves Red Wine
No hamper can be complete without a bottle of wine to cheer the season in. We don’t like to make other people’s choices for them, but this one is a winner and is available at all Drinkie’s branches.
11. Julie’s Butter Waffles
We ditched the chocolate and marshmallows this year and decided to go for some crunchy buttery waffle biscuits. These are to die for! Can be found at most supermarkets at 24.50 LE a box.
