UAE authorities offered temporary evacuation for starving animals in a Yemeni zoo near the front-line of the civil war in the southern city of Taiz.

The Breeding Centre for Endangered Arabian Wildlife in Sharjah and Al Ain Zoo, proposed to transfer 265 animals from the besieged zoo to the UAE where they can be looked after. 26 critically-endangered Arabian leopards are also feared for as they face terrible conditions in Taiz zoo.

Yemeni authorities won’t allow the evacuation and relocation to take place, turning down UAE’s offer. An official from the Sharjah center said: “We have space together with Al Ain, to accommodate all the animals until the situation is clear and afterwards the animals could return,”

“The Yemen authorities answered that the animals are well cared for and said ‘we don’t need your assistance’.

WE SAID THIS: We just wish the poor animals a better life in a better place.
