Ramadan Work Hours Will Not Apply to Non-Fasting Employees at DIFC
Ramadan is almost upon us, and while we love the family gatherings, the mosalsalat and the great food, the one thing we (Muslims and non-Muslims) truly love the most about it is the reduced working hours. How amazing it is to leave the office at 3 PM when you’re used to leaving it at 5 PM? Which is why it saddens us to be the bearer of this bad news: Not everyone will have their working hours reduced this Ramadan.
While the UAE Labour Law does not differentiate between fasting and non-fasting employees, the laws and regulations are different within Dubai’s International Financial Centre. DIFC is a federal financial free zone that occupies a physical territory of approximately 110 acres. It has its own legal system and courts distinct from those of the wider UAE, with jurisdiction over corporate, commercial, civil, employment, trusts and securities law matters. Which explains the following: Only fasting employees’ working hours will be reduced by two hours at the DIFC. Non-fasting employees will be required by their employers to work regular hours. We’re very sorry…
