The Silver Lining: Arabia’s First E-Comic-Con to Take Place This July
By Malak Khaled
Comic-Con is an awaited event by people from around the world. This is why Domain Entertainment and the creators of Comic-Con Arabia, Panache Middle East, have come together to create the first E-Comic Con to take place virtually amid global pandemic which will take place on the 3rd of July.
For the past few years, Comic-Con has become the main attraction in Saudi Arabia for pop culture enthusiasts in the region. The event was also an attraction to many international stars such as Jason Mamoa, Ian Somerhalder, Greg Grunberg, Charles Dance, and Mads Mikkelsen who attended the events in Jeddah and Riyadh.
This year, however, due to the lockdown, organizers are planning a virtual space where fans can attend celebrity panels, artist workshops, cosplay competitions with celebrity judges and more, in order to keep spirits up.
Fans are torn concerning the E-Comic Con not giving them the same experience as the one in real life; however, Zaki Abdul Jabbar, 21, who first cosplayed as Deadpool in 2018, feels like it might be an interesting approach to the event and says that “It’ll be nice to see what ideas they come up with and how it pans out.”
